Giving Tuesday is a day when people come together to support their communities through donations of time, funds and support. While it’s a one-day global observance, helping our local communities and bringing about positive change especially for seniors and those in need is something we embrace all year long at agilon health. As we say, #agilonhealthserves365.
“When you volunteer your time and skills, no matter how big or small, you’re investing and being part of your community,” said Mishayla Gunderson, senior accountant and lead of the service team for agilon health. “We are so proud of our employees who stepped up throughout the year to support local communities and those in need. This truly embodies who we are as a company.”
Here are some of the ways the agilon health team gave back to our communities this year:
1. Volunteer time off program
Beginning in January 2021, agilon health launched a new volunteer and service benefit for all employees, so they could take time off to volunteer in their communities and impact the lives of those in need. Every employee is encouraged to use 8 hours of time to volunteer during the year, either all at once or in increments. To date, our employees have volunteered more than 180 hours.
2. Days of giving to help seniors
Our agilon health team in southern California – which included 60 colleagues – recently came together and packed more than 2,000 food boxes over two days for the OC Food Bank. These boxes will, in turn, be distributed or delivered to low-income seniors living in the area.
3. Helping the underserved during COVID-19
In Hawaii, our agilon health team supported Our Kūpuna, a Hawaii-based non-profit organization that helps connect kūpuna (elders) with individuals who can safely pick up and deliver their groceries, medicines and supplies amid the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of $5,000 was donated by our Hawaii team, which included matching funds from our company, supporting 125 individuals within the community.
4. Supporting Alzheimer’s Disease awareness
In our Central and Northeast regions, which includes Ohio, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, and New York, our agilon health team participated in the Alzheimer’s Association Walk to End Alzheimer’s – the world’s largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research – and raised several thousand dollars for the cause, which is near and dear to our hearts.
