Our Team 2017-11-14T22:43:41+00:00

Expertise with a Purpose

Our founders had a vision and a deep understanding of what was needed to reimagine the delivery system. They understood that the fabric of our organization had to be developed by leaders who not only excelled in their own areas, but who appreciated the interdependencies with other critical aspects of our Operating System. They worked diligently to recruit a leadership team that reflected their vision. Fueled by their passion and an unwillingness to compromise, they built a leadership team that is recognized as one of the best in the industry. A team that is passionate about transforming the delivery system by enabling primary care physicians to achieve new standards of quality, efficiency and patient experience. At the helm of that management team is Ron Kuerbitz, a seasoned executive who spent over twenty years defining operational processes, investments and strategies for the leading provider of products, pharmaceuticals and services to the renal community. Drawing from the management models he implemented at Fresenius Medical Care, Ron quickly brought a clinical and administrative dyad model to the corporate and regional management of agilon health.

Our partnership approach recognizes that neither business teams nor clinical teams can operate at the highest performance levels independently. We embed that in our approach not just through a dyad model of management, but through a partnership model with our physician groups.
— Ron Kuerbitz, Chief Executive Officer

Representing the clinical side of that dyad are two highly experienced physician leaders – Stuart Levine, MD and Manoj Mathew, SFHM, MD. Both Stuart and Manoj have years of experience with clinical innovation and delivery system reform. They provide business development, clinical and managerial expertise in key areas of our Operating System, including hospitalist medicine, post-acute care, behavioral health, management programs for chronic diseases and the re-invention of primary care. They are joined by Angela Jeong, PharmD, who brings her in-depth experience with leading clinical programs to the development of programs and efficiencies to improve pharmacy spend in our patient population. On the administrative side are industry pioneers, like Elizabeth Russell. Elizabeth leads the Payment Model Transformation team, which is charged with negotiating all health plan arrangements. The former CEO for a health plan in Arizona, Elizabeth understands the operational complexities that come along with contracting terms in a way that most executives don’t. She provides a keen eye toward developing sustainable contracting models that are directly tied into our Operating System.

I believe deeply in agilon health’s ability to both serve the elderly and improve the physician’s experience.
— Elizabeth Russell, Chief of Payment Model Transformation

That brings us to Veeral Desai, who leads the development of scalable Operating Systems that are tailored to each individual market, physician organization partner and patient population. Veeral’s background in specialty medicine and scaling administrative services is uniquely suited to the demands of our Operating System. The ability to tailor capabilities to fit individual markets is critical to the expansion of agilon heath’s partnership model. Nowhere is this capability more critical than when serving a state’s Medicaid population. That’s why Ion Baroi’s experience with one of the largest Medi-Cal focused IPAs in California is so invaluable. As SVP of Medicaid Growth & Development, Ion leads agilon health’s expansion into Medi-Cal. Although the agilon health Operating System is built to enable the long-term success and sustainability of primary care physicians, we deliberately include premier specialist medicine as one of the tenets of our approach. Lisa Dombro brings years of experience building specialty physician networks, which can be major differentiators in patient care. Connecting and enabling all aspects of our Operating System is our proprietary technology platform and robust data analytics. IT leaders Zan Calhoun and Bill Farry have been instrumental in developing the operational model that agilon health uses to enable primary care physicians to achieve long-term success through advanced value-based payment contracts. They both see our technology platform as a way to create aligned partnerships, scalable operations and empower physicians to provide higher quality and more efficient healthcare. Our analytics team is headed by Rick Liu. An industry veteran with experience on both the plan and provider side, Rick has recruited a team of seasoned analysts who are using our network contracting, utilization management and claims processing data to create insights that help physicians make better, more informed decisions. The agilon health corporate leadership team is rounded out by the financial management talent of Ted Halkias and Kenny Bellendir. Both Ted and Kenny provide the fiduciary rigor needed to ensure we are good stewards of the trust placed in us by our partners. At the local level, every market is supported by a dedicated team of administrative and physician leadership. Through this model, we ensure that all decisions reflect the right balance of medical and business expertise.

Executive Leadership

Like our partnership model, the way our executive leadership team works is unique. Each member of the team has expertise in their own area of the company, but they also have first-hand knowledge of the other areas of the Operating System that rely on them. As a result, the team is acutely dedicated to operational excellence, collaboration and innovation — all of which drive care transformation forward.
